Linford R. Craven, Photographer (Early 1900s):
New Jersey postcard collectors have long noted a small number of "hard to find" postcards from Finesville, New Jersey, some with postmarks indicating they were mailed around 1909, and some identified on the rear of the postcard by the imprint Craven & Co, Doylestown, PA. Postcards without an imprint are easily identified by Craven's characteristic hand printed captions (especially by his letter "F").
Finesville New Jersey:
Finesville is located about 35-miles above Trenton, on the Musconetcong River, about a mile above where the Musconetcong enters the Delaware River. On July 11, 2003 we drove to Finesville and were fortunate to encounter local resident Michael Angelo... turns out our Finesville photographs may serve to help in the authentic restoration of farm buildings.
We were conducted on tour of a Finesville farm restoration. In the building that may have been a tavern, there was marvelous interior stonework... Finesville artist Alexander Volkov's works hung on the walls. In the nearby main barn, a steel cable had been installed and tightened between the interior walls... this cable is of special interest since our home is also a
converted barn w/cable, albeit a barn which served an 1875 residence instead of a much older barn serving hundreds of acres.
